A secret signature in Adventure
Did you know a famous Easter egg was a secret signature?
· 23-sec read
Atari didn't credit individual game designers, so Warren Robinett hid a room in Adventure. Players reached it with a one-pixel 'grey dot' colored like the wall, and the room read "Created by Warren Robinett." Atari executives didn't know it existed until a 15-year-old player wrote to them, and remaking the game was too expensive.
Why it matters
People want credit for their work: if your org won't give it, engineers will find a way to sign their work.
